Most followers of the site will know that Chris is currently travelling in Botswana, probably hiding out in a “hide” somewhere, witnessing and no doubt photographing much of Sth Africa”s amazing wildlife…

So I thought I’d get the juices flowing by sharing an album of some shots Chris took during an afternoon at the Auckland Zoo last year (with kids in tow), while out testing the new II series 300 f2.8L and 400 f2.8L for Canon.

This is just to remind enthusiastic photographers that if you can’t quite get to the wilds of South Africa (or the jungles of Borneo, or the icy extremes of Alaska) there are still opportunities out there to take amazing photos of animals.  Look at New Zealand photographer Rachel Hale’s success with gorgeous portraits of domestic animals!

You might also enjoy this video link where Chris talks about shooting wildlife and offers some tips and advice – Canon Wildlife Tutorial.

Until we hear from Chris and can share in his South African experiences…  Enjoy!

  1. your photography is absolutely amazing and I love your point of view. did you rotate the flamingo picture 180 degrees?

    • Hi Bobi
Yes, the reflections were so effective I decided to take the image only of the reflection with just a small part of the bird in shot, with the intention of rotating it afterwards. Makes viewers look that little bit harder in order to understand the shot… Well done! Cheers, Chris.
