ALASKA BROWN BEARS (5 nights):

The Alaska Photo Tour takes you to Lake Clark National Park, situated on the Alaska Peninsula southwest of Anchorage. Lake Clark has been called “the essence of Alaska” as the park includes so many of Alaska’s amazing landscape features in the one area; a convergence of three mountain ranges, two active volcanoes, the coastline to the East boasts stunning rainforest, the Western plateau with its tundra and wildlife, and the Turquoise Lake – the heart and soul of Lake Clark National Park.

It is within this conservation reserve that we will follow and photograph Alaska’s amazing grizzly bears – as well as other varied wildlife in the park, and of course; all against the stunning backdrop of Alaska’s remote beauty.

FULL ITINERARY:

DAY ONE
(Lunch, Dinner)

Fly Anchorage to Silver Salmon Creek Lodge, 9am. Upon arrival at Silver Salmon Creek Lodge you will be met by lodge staff and our guide/s, followed by a safety briefing on viewing and photographing the bears. After lunch, we will have our first opportunity to head out and explore the surrounding area, and our first chance to see and photograph Alaska’s amazing grizzly (brown) bears.

DAY TWO, THREE AND FOUR
(Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Each day will be spent exploring different areas within Lake Clark National Park as we follow and photograph the grizzly bears. Access is by foot or private boat and we will have an experienced bear guide to help us find and locate the best opportunities to see and photograph the bears each day. We will be photographing wild bears in their natural habitat, as they feed and build up their reserves in preparation for their winter hibernation.

Depending on the weather and bear activity each day, we will also have at least one opportunity (possibly two) to visit the nearby pelagic bird populations, including the horned and tufted puffins, black-legged kittiwakes and murras. Bald eagles, trumpeter swans and harbor seals can also be seen in this area.

If weather permits, there is also the opportunity to sea kayak the idyllic salt water bays and varied coastline areas for additional scenic photo opportunities of this stunning yet relatively undiscovered national park.

Evenings are spent enjoying a communal meal, and sharing stories and images from the day’s activities. Chris will present a slide show on the final evening so everyone can view and appreciate the best shots captured by the group during the tour.

DAY FIVE
(Breakfast)

After breakfast we make our final farewells and take a late morning flight back to Anchorage.
